Welcome to St. Clair

St. Clair is located on the eastern part of Michigan, USA, on the St. Clair River and Lake Huron.   The River also borders Ontario, Canada.

During the time Franz X. and Maria Theresia Joachim lived there, the area was known for being the last stop on the Underground Railroad, with freedom in sight across the St. Clair river to Canada. Also, with the use of the River, came lumbering, and then the sawmill and ship building industries.  The brick industry grew.  It was discovered that salt deposits lay under St. Clair County in the late 1800's.  St. Clair eventually became known as the home of Diamond Crystal Salt Company (many Joachim descendants worked there).

The city of St. Clair has a current population of 5,802 inhabitants.
